Join the NII team: now hiring a full-time Junior Graphic Designer (12-mth contract)

Job Title: Junior Graphic Designer

Organization: Nuclear Innovation Institute

Job location: Position located at the NII office in Port Elgin, with some work from home each week, if desired.

Duration: 12-month contract

Hours: Full time (35 hours per week)

Wage: Up to $50,000 per year

Reports to: Director of Communications

The focus:

The Junior Graphic Designer is responsible for helping execute NII’s communications strategy through innovative, high-precision design across our entire range of communications products: reports, slide decks, social media content, infographics, event materials and more.

The successful candidate will work with the communications team to craft engaging content that will help increase NII’s presence, gain visibility for our brand among our target audiences, and showcase the work of NII’s programs.

Key duties:

1) Content development

  • Contributing to the design of high-impact reports with an eye to NII’s branding and style

  • Translating complex topics into easy-to-understand visuals

  • Creating digital-first graphics for use on NII’s website, slide decks and social media channels

  • Proofing layouts and other design pieces with a close eye to detail

2) Project management

  • Working with external vendors (designers, printers, etc.) to execute projects throughout the production process

  • Assist NII staff event leads with design needs for in-person and virtual events

  • Helping track projects and timelines through Microsoft Planner software

3) Design asset management

  • Curating photos, graphics and video content for use throughout the design process

  • Manage digital assets from NII’s Founding Members and other partner organizations

Key skills required for the role:

  • 2-3 years of experience in graphic design, with a portfolio of design across media types (print, digital, video, etc.)

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Canva

  • Demonstrated skills in the full range of design, from concept development to production

  • Education in a relevant post-secondary program in graphic design

  • Detail-oriented with experience in file organization, curating photos and video

  • Experience with video editing (Adobe Premiere Pro) a strong asset

  • Experience with website design and management an asset

  • Excellent attention to detail and able to complete tasks with quick turnaround times

  • Energetic and creative with an ability to work collaboratively as a team
