CENTRE FOR EXCELLENCE
IN OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCIES
With the undergoing refurbishment of the nuclear fleet in Ontario, there is a tremendous opportunity to identify operational efficiencies through innovation for the nuclear sector. NII will be the leader and national centre in identifying opportunities for new technologies and applications.
CENTRE FOR ENVIRONMENT
AND GLOBAL WARMING
The environmental research programs aim to support research examining the overall health of Lake Huron and the Great Lakes, including exploring concerns such at invasive species, climate change and changes in populations of native fish species such as Whitefish. These research programs will enhance our knowledge of the impacts of plant operations on the surrounding aquatic life.
CENTRE FOR ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY
Leveraging significant amounts of data produced and collected by the nuclear industry, NII will identify innovative applications for these data through AI and digital technologies while simultaneously developing leading cybersecurity capabilities.
CENTRE FOR ADVANCING
The Government of Canada recognizes the importance of the nuclear industry as a vital source of innovation, job creation and low-carbon energy and is very supportive of the industry’s efforts to advance next-generation technologies, including small modular reactors (SMRs). NII will assess feasibility of deployment of SMR technology in Canada.
CENTRE FOR HEALTH
AND MEDICAL ISOTOPES
As a leader in medical isotopes and nuclear health applications, NII can help continue to develop Canada’s position as a leader in the field, as well as identify potential new applications.
CENTRE FOR MUNICIPAL
A Municipal Innovation Council will transform the way municipalities do business. Through collaborative and strategic thinking, the Municipal Innovation Council will leverage learning and discover efficiencies to transform the way local municipalities operate.
